Barbara Spurr lives and works in Brighton painting the changing seasons of the Sussex downs and seascapes. Her work reflects an instinctive response to the rhythms and colours of her personal world.
Ba originally trained as a teacher in London, then moved to Brighton in 1976 to attend Brighton Polytechnic Faculty of Art & Design where she gained a degree in graphic design. The use of colour and pattern have been intensified since temporarily losing most of her sight due to cataracts forming in her late twenties. She began painting again in 1995 after successful implants in both eyes and she celebrates her visual liberation through her paintings using pastels, pen & ink and acrylic to interpret what she sees.
